Day 2: Washington DC

Today was our really early day as we had to be at the White House for a tour at 7:30 a.m. this meant we had to leave the hotel at 6 a.m. Things were going well until we missed our exit and got lost and stuck in traffic. We thought for sure we wouldn't make, Rob and I had a little argument and then just like that we found another road with an HOV lane that was wide open and took us right where we needed to be. The tour wasn't really a tour but a self guided walk threw, but it is still cool to say we have been in the White House. From there we walked over to the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. For the kids the most exciting thing was seeing the baby ducks in the reflection pool, although they all enjoyed standing where MLK made his "I have a dream" speach. After the monuments we had a snack and headed over to Arlington Cemetery, where we saw the eternal flame, the tomb of the unknown soldier and the memorial for the Space Shuttle Challenger. The kids were very tired at this point, touring DC means a lot of walking and they were definitely done for the day so it was back to the hotel for a rest and swim in the pool before we were off for dinner. Tonight was our splurge night so we went out instead of cooking our dinner. We headed over to the Dancing Crab in Tennley Town for some Chesapeake Bay crabs. The kids had a great time smashing there crabs with the wooden mallets. Katie had a blast, she didn't want to take off her bib and wore in out of the restaurant. It was still early so we drove down the street for a quick look National Cathedral before calling it a night.

  1. Looks like you guys are having a great time in D.C. :) Aidan misses seeing Katie and Nel at school everyday - maybe we can do a playdate when you get back to town.
Enjoy the rest of your trip!
