Day 5: Washington DC

Saturday was our last day in DC, we cut our trip short by 2 days as the kids were tired of visiting museums and it was supposed to rain the next two days.  That said the kids were in a great mood and we actually visited 3 museums.  We started with the National Archives to see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  The line to get in was long but the kids had a good time playing in the shade under a tree while we waited.  Once inside the line moved quickly and it was fascinating to think of all the information that they keep on file.  Someday it would be interesting to look up some of my family's history there.  After the Archives we where hungry so the kids voted for heading to Chinatown for some Dim Sum.  Chinatown in DC is small compared to Chicago but we managed to find a nice place to eat, Tony Chen's.  Then we were off to the National Geographic Museum, I was hoping they would still have the tree frog exhibit but it had changed over to one on China and one on the human footprint.  Of course the photos were beautiful and the it was interesting and thought provoking to see how much stuff we use in a lifetime in the human footprint exhibit.  The kids were still in a great mood at this point so we gave them the choose of heading back to the hotel or going to the National Building Museum, the voted for the museum.  This was the perfect place for Chet as they were having family day and had a huge section of the floor covered with Lego's to build with.  While Chet and Katie played with the Lego's I took Nel to some of the other activities and Khim explored the exhibit on how DC was designed.  When Chet and Katie finished their projects we walked through some of the exhibits and then it was back to the hotel to eat dinner and pack up to leave the next day.
